Iron Bridge marked our move into high-grade magnetite. Expanding our product mix and helping reshape what lower emissions iron production can look like.

With higher iron content and fewer impurities, magnetite improves furnace efficiency and lowers emissions across the steelmaking process.

Located on Nyamal Country in Western Australia’s Pilbara region, Iron Bridge is an unincorporated joint venture between FMG Magnetite Pty Ltd (69%) and Formosa Steel IB Pty Ltd (31%).

Now the site is helping drive another shift. Proving renewable energy systems can power magnetite operations at scale.

High grade. High impact.

Iron Bridge is supporting the path to Real Zero.

High-grade magnetite improves steelmaking efficiency, while renewable energy infrastructure is helping reshape how the operation itself is powered.

It's part of how we're transforming our operations for a future beyond fossil fuels.

    Solar-powered operations

    Our 100MW solar farm at North Star Junction already supplies around 25% of Iron Bridge’s power demand with renewable energy. Next stop: operating on 100% renewable energy by 2030.

    Renewables that work around the clock

    A 250MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at North Star Junction stores renewable energy generated during the day and delivers reliable power back into operations after sunset. Reliable. Renewable. Ready when it’s needed.

  • The electric shift is underway

    More than half of Iron Bridge’s operations fleet is already battery electric. Another step toward removing diesel from day-to-day operations and proving what’s possible at scale.
