An opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineer - Motorsport Analysis to join the Motorsport & Advanced Engineering department.

About the role

The motorsport and advanced engineering business unit have a team comprising of design engineers and engineering analysts. An engineering analyst is required to develop robust models and workflows to be used in simulation-led design optimisation activities. The ideal candidate has experience across thermal, hydraulic and electrical systems. The projects are high performance in nature, with a focus on lightweight and powerful systems across motorsport, defence and other applications. 

What you will do

As a member of the design and analysis engineering team your duties will include:

  • Responsible for simulation and data analysis across mechanical, electrical and thermal projects.  
  • Interrogate vehicle drive cycles, applying efficient data analysis techniques to identify potential errors, and define product requirements. 
  • Define multi-objective cost-functions to quantify performance, considering the full product and its application. 
  • Training machine learning models to optimise system design using large multi-parameter datasets. 
  • Produce reports with clear objectives, methods and results for ongoing use.  
  • Effective communication with other engineering teams. 
  • Close collaboration with design engineers to increase design process efficiency through parametric CAD automated simulation workflows. 
  • Concise reporting and communication of key metrics for leaders, along with improvement suggestions. 
  • Contributing to design reviews with data and simulation-led evidence, improving product designs throughout entire project cycle. 
  • Occasional event or test support, focussed on using data to support analysis methods.  
  • Coordinate focussed empirical component testing, collaborating with test and validation teams, to support simulation inputs and validation. 
  • Manage outsourced analysis work packages with specialist external suppliers

About you

  • Must have high quality analysis experience in high performance applications such as motorsport, defence, aerospace. 
  • Significant exposure to HV systems, rotating machinery, power electronics, energy storage and low volume applications is highly desirable.
  • Cooling system design with CFD is advantageous. 
  • Composites and structures familiarity with FEA experience is advantageous. 
  • Demonstrated leadership potential alongside effective communication skills.
  • Must be able to achieve and maintain Base Line Security Clearance (BPSS) for this role.
  • Ability to travel outside the UK.
